Enter the domain you want to register in the search box on the namecheap homepage and press enter.
It can take a while to find an available domain but when you finally hit the jackpot click the add to cart button.
Once you’ve added your domain to the cart you’ll be presented with a load of other options for products you might be interested in. I tend to only use domain registrars for registering domains and keep my hosting and other services separate.
Click on View Cart once you’ve added any additional services you want.
In the shopping cart there’s a few things you may want to check.
Domain Registration Length: It used to be widely believed that registering your domain for more years could improve your ranking in google search results however it’s now believed that it doesn’t have any affect on the rankings.
If you’re new to blogging then I’d advise registering for a year to start with to try it out and see if you like it.
WhoisGuard: It’s free and it keeps your personal information out of the public whois records. It’s definitely worth it and make sure the auto renew checkbox is checked.
Once you’re happy with your order click Confirm Order.
Next up you’ll need to enter your personal and payment information. It’s all fairly standard stuff like your name and address.
Pay attention to the renewal settings at the end of the form. If you don’t want your domain to auto renew then make sure it’s unchecked.
You’l; get a nice summary of your order details. Double check everything is as it should be and click Pay Now.
The order processing may take a minute – and the 2 items are the domain and the WhoisGuard (which is free).
If your purchase was successful you’ll be greeted with the Thankyou for your Purchase screen.
Hurrah! Your very own domain name! Get out there and put it to good use.
